Sunday, December 1st: The Start of the New Church Calendar
As we begin the new Church Calendar, we enter a season of anticipation, reflection, and celebration.
The Time of Christmas
The birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, holds immense significance, second only to His resurrection on Easter Sunday. This season invites us to reflect on the extraordinary gift of God coming to dwell among us.
Advent
Advent begins on the fourth Sunday before December 25, or the Sunday closest to St. Andrew’s Day (November 30).
The term Advent comes from the Latin word adventus, meaning “coming into.” This four-week period prepares our hearts and minds for Christmas. The Advent season reminds us of the hope brought into the world through Jesus’ birth.
As we light the candles of the Advent wreath each week, our anticipation grows as we draw closer to celebrating Christ’s arrival. The Advent wreath, with its four candles, helps us focus on the light of Jesus coming into the darkness of the world.
Let this Advent season inspire us to prepare our hearts for the hope, peace, joy, and love that Christ brings!
